Designed for Julia, a busy filmmaker who works long hours and travels frequently but relishes spending her time off at home. A first-generation American of Polish descent, her new loft space in Greenpoint will be her home base, where she will occasionally work.
The design juxtaposes the cerebral and deliberate nature of contemporary design and the unpretentious joy of the common with a femme point of view.
The layering of the client’s creative identity, her Polish heritage, the Polish culture of the neighborhood, and the celebration of “traditional women’s arts” and artists feels appropriate for Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and New York.

FEMME FOLK CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary design leans into simplicity, subtle sophistication, deliberate use of texture, and rectilinear and organic clean lines. When mixed with unfussy folk design—a genre richly woven with vibrant color, pattern, and the imperfect comfort of the handmade—we can achieve a balance that feels warm without clutter, current with a soul, calm without being dull, and forward-looking while celebrating history with a femme point of view.
